That gap is sealed around the perimeter — and that seal is the most vulnerable part of the window when it comes to cleaning. What You Can and Cannot Do

The Fogging Problem

If your double pane window has fogging or condensation between the panes, that’s a failed seal — not a cleaning problem. Cleaning the exterior glass won’t fix or worsen it. A failed IGU seal requires either full window replacement or an IGU replacement (the glass unit swapped into the existing frame). No cleaning product addresses this.

Note: exterior condensation on double pane windows in the early morning is normal and indicates the seal is working — the outer pane is cold enough that humid Naples air condenses on it. This clears as the sun warms the glass and is not a sign of seal failure.

Naples-Specific Considerations

Salt air and mineral deposits from irrigation are the primary cleaning challenges for double pane windows in Naples. The Low-E coating on most modern IGUs is on the interior surface of one pane — it’s not exposed to exterior cleaning. Exterior surfaces can be treated with diluted mineral removers as needed, provided you avoid directing solution at the perimeter seal. Always rinse with purified water to prevent new mineral deposits.
